Immerse yourself in the American University undergraduate experience.

Visiting our Admissions Welcome Center is your opportunity to learn more about American University (AU). From the classroom, campus life, internships, and study abroad, you will see how we use inquiry, discovery, and knowledge to serve the greater good. You'll participate in an information session presented by one of our admissions professionals.

AU is carefully monitoring the evolving public health situation and aligning decisions with recommended public health guidelines. Thank you for your understanding as we prioritize the health and safety of the AU community and our visitors. Prior to scheduling your on-campus tour, you must review the guidelines established to ensure the health and safety of those involved. 

COVID-19 Health and Safety Protocols

For your safety as well as the safety of the AU community, all guests/visitors must be fully vaccinated and will need to present proof of full COVID-19 vaccination at this event, with a preference of using the digital vaccine card via the CLEAR app (iOS or Android) if you are 18 years of age or older. You can also present your paper CDC card or a digital copy of your CDC Card.

If guests are unvaccinated because of religious/medical reasons, they must present at the visit a negative COVID-19 PCR test result taken within 72 hours before this event. 

Masks are optional on campus, but highly recommended(high-quality KN95 or N95 masks preferred). Please also note, if you intend to use the AU Shuttle on your visit, a mask is required to ride.

All visitors to American University's campus are required to abide by American University Health and Safety Directives and the District of Columbia public health and safety requirements. In registering for a campus visit, you and your guests are agreeing to these requirements and understand that the safety of everyone on campus depends on adherence to these rules; and acknowledge that guests/visitors to the University may be restricted from accessing University premises for noncompliance.

Admissions Welcome Center Hours

Monday through Friday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Select Saturdays in the fall and spring: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Reservations are required.

The Welcome Center will be closed the following date:

  • December 24 - January 2, Winter Break

Scheduling Your Visit

To ensure you have a personalized, engaging experience, space is limited for our tours and information sessions. As such, we ask that you register in advance of your visit.

You can register using the calendar below, emailing, or calling 202-885-6000. When registering via email, please provide student's name, home address, number of guests, and preferred date of visit. Please note that registration is done on a first-come, first-serve basis. We will do our best to accommodate your preferred date and time.

To request accommodations for persons with disabilities, please call 202-885-6060 at least two weeks in advance of your scheduled visit.

What You Can Expect From Us: 

  • A 60-minute walking tour of campus that will introduce you to the AU community.
  • Check-in will be contactless. All materials are pre-packaged and set out in advance for you.
  • To ensure the health and safety of our community AU will require COVID-19 vaccinations for faculty and staff. Exemptions to the vaccine requirement will be considered for medical conditions or religious reasons, consistent with federal and DC law.
    • All unvaccinated university students, staff, and faculty will have completed COVID testing at twice per week.

What We Expect From You:

  • We ask that all visitors register for a visit at least 24-hours in advance.
  • All guests/visitors must be fully vaccinated and will need to present proof of full COVID-19 vaccination at check-in, per our Covid-19 Health and Safety Protocols
  • If guests are unvaccinated because of religious/medical reasons, they must present at this event a negative COVID-19 PCR test result taken within 72 hours before the visit.
  • If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, regardless of vaccination status, please reschedule your visit: fever of 100.4 or above, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, muscle aches, new loss of taste or smell.


Location and Parking

The Admissions Welcome Center is on the second floor of the Katzen Arts Center, located at 4400 Massachusetts Avenue, NW. For your convenience, underground parking is available on the P1 garage level. When you arrive, simply take the elevator to the second floor and follow the signs to the Admissions Welcome Center. Visitors who register for a campus visit in advance, will receive information about parking in their confirmation emails. The confirmation email will include our guest code for complimentary parking and instructions on how to enter that code in the pay stations.
