From heads of state to pillars of the community, American University has a surplus of notable alumni. AU graduates are well-known for a legacy of transforming ideas into impact across the globe. A new Notable Alumni web page tells just some of the stories of AU’s changemaking alumni.
Among the more than 135,000 alumni around the world are seven heads of state, seven members of Congress, and the proud owners of four Academy Awards. AU Eagles are non-profit executives, CEOs, activists, writers, educators, and everything in between.
“We are always proud of the diverse and impressive accomplishments of our alumni, and this is just one way we can share their stories with the world,” says Raina Lenney, assistant vice president of alumni relations.
Realizing that no list of notable AU Eagles will ever be exhaustive, the page includes a process for suggesting other alumni for inclusion. Community members are encouraged to share stories of other notable Eagle alumni, and a committee of representatives from across campus meets biannually to review
suggestions and recommend alumni for inclusion.
“This page is truly a representation of our incredible community,” Lenney said. “It’s a way for all of us to share and show pride in the American University family.”
