AU Job & Internship Fairs Hire AU Students & Alumni

AU will host two unique career fairs this Spring 2022! Attend our in-person fair on Wednesday, March 30 & our virtual fair on Wednesday, April 6. Engage with AU students, recent graduates & alumni in-person, virtually or both! Hybrid recruitment provides for greater access, allowing for a more diverse candidate pool.

Fairs are an excellent opportunity to build brand awareness. Registered employers are encouraged to provide social media content to promote their attendance & further build their brand. Fairs are open to participating AU attendees and registered employers only.

Representatives from companies, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies will connect with students & alumni from a variety of disciplines. Organizations will meet attendees from AU's:

Employer Registration & Fair Preparation

Please ensure all participating representatives from your organization review the information below:

AU will partner with Handshake to host our virtual job & internship fair. Review Handshake's: A Guide For Employers for updated best practices and tips for a successful virtual fair.

Handshake virtual fair platform allows you to host:

  • Up to 100 organization representatives
  • 18 1:1 appointments - per representative
  • 6 30-min group sessions at 50 attendees each

The fair registrant must invite representatives, create group sessions & 1:1 appointments. If sessions are not created and if reps do not claim their schedules, candidates will have nothing to sign up for and you will have no candidate interactions with during the fair.

Registrant's Terms of Agreement Policy

You, as the fair registrant, are responsible for abiding by the following policies:

PAYMENT DEADLINE POLICY: All payments must be received by Friday, March 30 for both in-person & virtual fair.

CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY: If your organization needs to withdraw from the fair, you must notify Elaine Salisbury, Employer Relations Specialist, via email by Friday, March 11. No refunds will be granted after this date.

Credit/Cancellation Policy for Weather & Emergency Conditions: In the event that the Job and Internship Fair must be cancelled for circumstances beyond our control (e.g. inclement weather, campus emergency, power or server outages), causing the virtual or in-person fair not to run as scheduled, a credit will be given to a future fair in lieu of a refund.

NO SHOW POLICY: If representatives are unable to attend the in-person or virtual fair at the last minute, your organization will be responsible for paying the registration fee in full. If a registration has been made and fees paid and your organization is a "no-show" for the fair, registration fees will not be refunded or credited toward future fairs. For the virtual fair, even if a schedule is not created/claimed by a representative, the fair registrant is still responsible for fair fee, and no longer eligible for a refund.

Only organizations with accounts in good standing will be eligible to participate in campus recruiting activities in the future.

VIOLATION OF RECRUITING POLICIES

Any violation of our employer recruiting policies or online career services Terms of Service may result in a sanction against the organization.  Examples of recruiting violations may include but are not limited to:  disclosure of student information, unprofessional or inappropriate conduct with students, or mass-emailing to faculty, staff, students or alumni.

An organization that commits a violation of American University Recruiting Policies will receive notice of the violation.  In addition to issuing the notice, American University may also impose a sanction against the organization for the violation. Sanctions imposed may result in the following: 1) issuance of a warning letter, 2) suspension of recruiting privileges at American University for a designated period, or 3) termination of recruiting privileges.   In the event of a suspension, the sanctioned organization may request reinstatement of recruiting privileges shortly before expiration of the designated sanction period. The request for reinstatement shall include information on how the organization will avoid any future occurrences of the violation sanctioned and detail what, if any, procedures the organization will employ to avoid any future violation of American University Recruiting Policies. Upon review of the request for reinstatement, American University will send a written notification of reinstatement and the effective date of the reinstated recruiting privileges.

Any sanction may be appealed to the Executive Director of the American University . The Executive Director will review the appeal and determine whether the sanction will be affirmed, modified, or reversed.  Upon such determination, the Executive Director will send written notification of the decision to the organization.

For all other questions, contact Elaine Salisbury, employer relations specialist.

Remember: Each employer may invite up to 100 representatives to join the fair to host group sessions and 1:1 appointments. Now everything is virtual, consider increasing the number of representatives attending our fair! This will increase the number of interactions you will have with candidates.  AU alumni, newly hired young professionals or high-level leaders could assist with group sessions or 1:1 appointments.
