Customer Support Award

Christopher McGraw

CAS-World Languages & Culture

Chris McGraw is the first face you will encounter at the Center for Language Exploration, Acquisition and Research (CLEAR). He is always kind, gracious, and smiling, making everyone feel welcomed. We have students and tutors from many countries and Chris is always interested in knowing about them and treats everyone with respect. Faculty and students know that they can find the tools to improve their teaching and learning at CLEAR because of Chris.

Chris goes out of his way to support our students' language learning beyond the classroom. He has been instrumental in the success of the CLEAR Chats initiative, a series of conversation sessions with students of Spanish to improve their communication skills. He helps tutors organize extra activities like “French Cafe” or “Rincón Español” so students can come and practice conversation in different languages in an informal setting.

Chris is also a deliberate and organized professional, responsible for day-to-day operations. He schedules tutoring hours, sets exam times, prepares materials, organizes the library of books, reference materials and movies, serves as technical support and orders supplies to keep the Center operating smoothly. He helps design brochures, organize sessions and advertise workshops.

Chris oversaw coordination of the individual student appointments, going as far as calling students to make sure every appointment was staffed, or scheduling conflicts resolved. As a result, service use volume for Spanish coaching increased to over 80%.

Chris receives praise from faculty, students and staff for his welcoming demeanor and exceptional customer service.

Congratulations to Christopher McGraw for being selected as the recipient of the 2020 Customer Support Staff Award and thank you for all that you do for American University.
