A Note on 2021-2022 Changes in services provided
We're here for all AU students, whether you're full-time or part-time, undergraduate or graduate, and our services are always free and confidential. You can access our virtual waiting room here: https://aucc.doxy.me/.
The AU Counseling Center is offering both virtual services and limited in-person (subject to change) services. In accordance to DC COVID-19 policies, mask must be worn inside the center regardless of vaccination status. Due to applicable licensure laws, the AU Counseling Center will only offer virtual clinical services (e.g. Initial Consultation assessments, ongoing counseling, group therapy) to students who can be physically located in the District of Columbia (not Maryland or Virginia). If a student is unable to locate a private space in DC, AUCC will work with the student to supply an appropriate space for their appointment. To schedule an Initial Consultation for on-going treatment you must call 202-885-3500. Appointments are not scheduled in person.
Urgent Care hours is no longer held from 2-4 PM. Crisis support is now available 24/7 through AU ProtoCall. Students can call AU ProtoCall from anywhere at anytime. Parents, faculty, and staff may also call AU ProtoCall services if concerned about a student. The number for AU ProtoCall is 202-885-7979.
Students seeking telemental health services located outside of DC will be assisted with referrals to providers in your current location. Students may locate referrals using My SSP at anytime from anywhere. Students may also call the Counseling Center at 202-885-3500 to schedule an Initial Consulation for a referral consultation!
AU students now have access to a personalized wellness platform, You@American, with self-checks and evaluations to help each student assess their challenges, set their own goals, and support their emotional wellbeing. Create the account through your AU portal and get started!
AU has partnered with LifeWorks to provide students with the "My SSP" app. The "My SSP" app provides solution-focus, culturally informed support for students studying in DC or abroad. This app can be used for finding community referrals or to receive on-going support. The app is free and is available on both Android and iOS platforms.
