Spring 2022 Closing

As the spring semester comes to an end, residents and their families will find information to plan for their residence hall to close.

Checkout Procedures

You have two options for checking out of housing, an Traditional (available 8am-8pm between May 5-May 9) or Express (available 24/7) or traditional checkout.

Learn more about each options below. When you're ready to check out, you'll follow a step-by-step guide in the AU Housing Portal. It's that simple!

The Express Checkout can be done much faster than a traditional checkout since the room inspection is done after you have left. If you select this option, you waive the opportunity to appeal any damage charges that may be placed on your student account.  

  1. Remove all items from your room
  2. Clean your room
  3. Check your mailbox one last time
  4. Room checkout process begins
    1. Go to the front desk and turn in any keys
    2. Show the Desk Receptionist your checkout status with code (on your phone)
    3. The Desk Receptionist will check you out of the hall
  5. Student portion of room checkout process is complete**
  6. Have a great summer!
  7. A RA will complete your Room inspection and identify any damages.
    1. If identified, damage billing charges will be placed on your student account by late May. You are unable to appeal these charges.

The Traditional Checkout is the standard checkout process where you remove all your items, clean your space and an HRL staff member will complete your Room Exit Inspection with you to determine if are responsible for any damages to your room. With a traditional checkout you can appeal damage charges.

  1. Remove all items from your room

  4. Room checkout process begins
    1. Go to the front desk and turn in any keys
    2. You'll be connected with a RA while at the desk
    3. The RA will complete your Room Inspection with you present
    4. You will be checked out by the RA while you are in your room
  5. Room checkout process is complete
  6. Have a great summer!

Donate or Dispose

Donate it: Project Move Out will collect donations in the following locations (see our map) outside the residence halls. No donations can be left inside your residence hall:

  • Anderson/Centennial/Letts Quad
  • East Campus Quad
  • McDowell/Cassell Quad
  • Nebraska
  • MGC

Toss it: Items that can't be donated can be disposed of in a dumpster located outside each hall (see our map).

Move Out Assistance

Beginning, Saturday, April 23 residents are permitted to bring guests into the residence halls to assist them when they’re actively moving out. Guests do not need to be registered in advance and students can simply meet their guests at the front desk when they arrive.

The academic year guest policy is in effect unless a student is actively moving out.  If a student plans to move out before April 23, they will be required to register their guest(s) in the AU Housing Portal in advance.

Closing Charges

Review potenial closing charges a resident can incur for damages, not checking out properly, and leaving their room unclean.

Extended Stay

Extended Stay selection concluded on Friday, April 15. All residents can view their date to check out by on the homepage of the AU Housing Portal under their spring 2022 assignment.

Summer Housing

Summer housing is available to returning AU undergraduate students. Students wishing to stay for summer housing should apply through the AU Housing Portal. Students staying over the summer will move to their summer assignments on Sunday, May 8, 2022.

Rental Returns and Vendor Services

  • MicroFridge Rentals

    • Exact pickup dates will be announced, but are expected to be in May before residence halls close. You will receive an email from MicroFridge on how to defrost and clean your MicroFridge before it is picked up. Leave your MicroFridge unit in your room. If you have any questions before this time, please direct them to  info@myfridgerental.com.
  • Lockbox Rentals

    • Make sure your unit is cleared of all personal belongings prior to pickup. Exact pickup dates will be announced, but are expected to be in May before residence halls close.
  • Lofts

    • Leave your lofts in your room for pickup.
  • UPS Summer Storage

    • The on-campus UPS store provides storage and delivery services for students in our residence halls through  AU Storage. Contact the UPS Store for further information
    • If you are using a company other than UPS Summer Storage, you must make arrangements and escort those individuals in your hall at all times.

Closing Dates

  • Wednesday, 4/20 - Monday, 4/25: Mandatory floor meetings. RAs will notify their residents.
  • Tuesday, 4/26: Quiet hours effective 24-hours a day through closing.
  • Wednesday, 5/4: Final day mail and packages will be accepted
  • Thursday, 5/5:
    • Residence halls close at 12 p.m. for undergraduate students
    • MicroFridge and Lockbox pickups begin
    • Meal plans end following lunch.
  • Saturday, 5/7: All mail and packages not picked up will be returned to sender
  • Saturday, 5/7 - Sunday, 5/8: Commencement
    • Sunday, 5/8: Residence halls close for graduating seniors at 12 p.m. who participated in commencent on Saturday, May 7.
    • Monday, 5/9: Residence halls close for graduating seniors at 12 p.m. who participated in commencent on Sunday, May 8.
  • Sunday, 5/8: Move-in for summer student housing and spring to summer housing transitions.
  • Monday, 5/9: Mail services begins to accept summer resident mail and packages
