Summer 2022 Housing
Eligibility
Summer housing is available to returning AU undergraduate students who are:
- Enrolled in summer coursework at AU or
- Enrolled in AU courses for fall 2022 and a fall on-campus housing assignment enrolled (working or interning in the D.C. area)

Location
Students are housed in either Centennial Hall (suite-style housing) or Frequency Apartment (apartment-style housing). Both single and double occupancy rooms will be offered.
Accommodations are fully furnished. Additional information about each hall, including our virtual tours, can be found on each hall's webpages linked above.

Summer Housing Rates 2022
Summer housing is billed to the student's Eagle Service account. A daily rate, with a minimum stay of 21 days (3 weeks), is used for summer housing.
All available rooms are designed for two residents. When a Double as a Single is requested, the second set of furniture will remain in the room.
Below is the daily rate for each summer room-type. To determine you cost for summer housing, please take the number of dates you requested (a minimum of 21 days) and multiply that by the daily rate for the room-type you selected.

Applying for Summer Housing
The summer housing application will open to undergraduate students on Monday, April 4 at 12PM (noon).

The summer housing application will open to undergraduate students on Monday, April 4 at 12PM (noon).
- Apply by April 15, and you will recieve your assignment on April 18.
- If you apply after April 15th, we will make assignments each Monday on a rolling basis.
To apply, Log into your AU Housing Portal and select the application for "Summer Student 2022." There is no deadline to apply, but students should apply at minimally 10 business days prior to their requested move-in.
The application will allow you to preference a hall (Centennial or Frequency), room type (single or double occupancy), and dates of occupancy. A minimum of 21 days (3 weeks) is required when requesting summer housing.
Cancelling Summer Housing
To cancel, please email housing@american.edu and state the reason you wish to cancel. Please title the email 'Summer Housing Cancellation.'
- Students who cancel at least 48-hours before moving in will not be charged a cancellation fee.
- Students who cancel less than 48-hours before moving in will be charged for 7-days in ther assigned room as a cancellation fee.
- Students who move in and then cancel will be charged for their days in occuapancy or 7-days, whichever is more.

Frequently Asked Questions
How and when will I check-in?
HRL will share check-in instructions with summer residents through email in advance of your arrival to campus.
If I'm living on campus now, can I stay in my current spring room for the summer?
If your spring housing assignment is in Centennial Hall or Frequency Apartments, we will do our best to allow you to remain in your academic year room assignment if you are requesting summer housing at the end of the spring semester.
Are the residence hall policies different over the summer?
Summer policies are the same as the academic year. Please review the Summer Housing and Lisence Agreement linked on this page and Student Conduct Code.

Will I have a roommate as a summer resident?
If you request a double room you should expect a roommate during the summer.
If you request a single in Centennial Hall you should expect to share the in-unit bathroom with 1-2 students residing in the adjacent suite.
All available rooms are designed for two residents. When a Double as a Single is requested the second set of furniture will remain in the room.
When will I know that I am confirmed for summer housing?
We anticipate being able to house all applicants who meet the academic and date requirements for summer housing:
- Eligibility: If you meet the eligibility based on summer enrollment or fall enrollment and on-campus housing.
- Date: A minimum of 21 days (3 weeks) is required when requesting summer housing.
How will mail and packages be handled in the summer?
We will share this information with summer residents in advance of their check-in for summer housing.
Spring to Summer Transition
- Living on-campus for the spring: You will remain in your spring housing assignment until Sunday, May 8th and you will move into your summer housing assigment on this day. HRL will share further details in advance.
- Living off-campus for the spring: Summer housing opens on Sunday, May 8th. Students can move in on or after this date.
Summer to Fall Transition
- Living on-campus for the fall: You will remain in your summer housing assignment until Tuesday, August 16th and you will move into your fall housing assigment on this day. HRL will share further details in advance.
- Living off-campus for the fall: Students residing off-campus for the fall semester must move out of summer housing by Saturday, August 13th. HRL will share further details in advance.
